A message from Alcia Loach, our founder and chairperson:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the vouchers that you have purchased over the months that we have been active, and your support in helping us to provide relief to those experiencing homelessness and social deprivation – I believe that if we can remove some of the immediate need that people experience, it provides a chance for people to grow their life chances.

Here at Pocket Angel we use the vouchers that you have kindly donated to supply goods and services to those experiencing homelessness and social deprivation.  Without your donations we would not be able to operate.  Therefore, it is important to me that you understand what we use your vouchers for and that you can see the types of vouchers that you are providing to us.

When the country moved into lock-down in 2020, we changed the main model for Pocket Angel delivery from you providing vouchers directly to those in need to you giving them to us to use on your behalf through chosen partner organisations – this is still the model we are using, although we have seen a small up-tick in direct voucher sales.

St Anne’s Centre for Homeless and Isolated People

We have been partnering with St Anne’s since we launched.  Using meal vouchers, we provide constituent ingredients that the St Anne’s volunteers use to prepare nutritious and tasty hot meals and also takeaway lunchboxes and “goody bags”.

In the Spring of 2021 St Anne’s installed a shower for those who do not have access to washing facilities, and we use vouchers to supply essential hygiene items for that.

Many of the St Anne’s clientele struggle to have new clothes, and for those on the streets, socks are very important as are warm items in the winter.  We have used vouchers and donations to supply items of clothing.

85hot meal equivalents
68lunch pack equivalents
38Hot and cold drinks
145pairs of socks
350individual shower gel bottles
350individual shampoo bottles

As well as these items using the vouchers that you have donated, in the winter of 2020 Pocket Angel ran a campaign to provide hand knitted scarves and hats, resulting in around 50 items being produced by a small army of knitters! During the very cold snap we also placed a request on our social media pages for donations of warm clothing, resulting in around 200 items being provide to St Anne’s in less than a week including coats, jumpers, boots, gloves, hats, scarves, and shirts. In the Autumn of 2021 our army of knitters were once again active and we were able to provide an additional 48  hats and 41 scarves ready for winter.

Soul Soup Brighton

We have also been partnering with Soul Soup since the beginning.  Using meal vouchers, we provide constituent ingredients that Soul Soup uses to make and prepare nutritious and tasty hot meals that they deliver directly to those who request them.  We provide Fruit & Veg box vouchers to allow Soul Soup to supply these for people who can prepare their own meals where they have access to preparation and cooking facilities.
